Washington is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States located north of Oregon, west of Idaho, and south of the Canadian province of British Columbia on the coast of the Pacific Ocean.

Its capital is Olympia but there are also other big cities in the state of Washington like Seattle, Tacoma and Bellevue .All together, over 6,5 million people (2010) live in Washington on 184.665 km². In this connection, it is pretty exceptional that over the half of the population of Washington lives in the metropolises like Seattle. Why?

The people need to work to earn money and there are not a lot of jobs in many of the rural Areas.

Right now I will tell you sth.to the geography of Washington. Washington has many rivers like the Columbia river but also many mountains. Its biggest mountain is the Mount Rainer (4.392 m).Washington has also three national parks and pretty huge forests.

To History, 1775, a Spanish team of explorers explores Washington the first time which is documented by ships.1811 , the Americans build one of the first towns in Washington. Before, there were just some towns of Native Americans or pretty small towns of former explorers. 1855, there were first find of gold in Washington. After many wars between the Native Americans and Americans, Washington joins the US in 1889.

Analysis of chapter 2

The chapter “Why Chicken Means So Much to Me” of the diary “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian”, which is written by Sherman Alexie was published in September 2007,is about the poverty of Junior and his family.

In the following text I will summarize the chapter.

In the beginning Junior talks about the fact that his dog , which is called Oscar , is sick and is looking pretty pretty bad.After that Junior asks his parents if he can bring his dog to the vet but they say that he couldn´t because they have not enough money for a surgery.In the end Junior´s father kills Oscar to stop his suffering.

Right now, I am going to analyse the chapter by interpreting stylistic devices.

In the chapter there are many stylistic devices, but in this analysis I will just give some examples.The first I pick can be found on page 19 line 3.In this quote Junior clarifies that his dog his pretty sick and is looking very sick too.Some lines further he explains that he couldn’t save Oscar by a repetition(com.p.20 ll.14).I think that this expresses how sad Junior is and exspecially that makes the reader feels sad too by reading the chapter.In another repetition (com.p.21 ll.8) Junior says that he wants to hate his parents because of their poorness. Actually , I believe that he can´t  hate them , he just hates the poverty and the fact that they can´t help Oscar.

Reffering to the cartoons, Junior says: ‘‘ That is the only way I can become rich and famous ‘‘, in the first chapter.

In the following text I will evaluate/comment on this quote.

To begin with, I would say that it is pretty hard to become famous as a cartoonist because there are many rivals so you have to be very good to be better than the others. Let’s suppose he is good enough in drawing I think that he wouldn’t dispite become famous because of his physical and emotional conditions. For example Junior has seizures. This could be a problem because when he would present one of his cartoons and has a seizure then the viewers would go away. However, I believe that his biggest problem would be his social background. Why?

Junior is an Indian so he gets bullied by others and nobody would be interested by looking at his cartoons. The problem: when nobody looks at his cartoons he cannot become famous.

All in all I believe that Junior cannot become famous as drawer because of his conditions and his social background.
