Analysis of Junior

The diary “The Absolutely true Diary of a part -time Indian,” written by Sherman Alexie and published 2007, deals with a Indianboy named Arnold and his problems in school, life and with his poor family.

In the following I’m going to analyse Arnold Spirit Jr. and his feelings and his behavior.

Junior is round about 14 years old so he is in the middle of the puberty and is on the way to get an adult like every normal teenager (“I spend hours in the bathroom  with a magazine that has one thousand pictures of naked movie stars”, ll.9-10 p.35->puberty). But Arnold isn’t at all just a normal teenager he is something different. All teenagers are bored of school but he is excited in some way (“And I was most especially excited about my first geometry class”, ll. 2-3 p.35 ). Also you can see that Junior loves to masturbate and he tells it to everyone and isn’t ashamed because of this. So you can see that this is brave in a wierd way (“Yep, that’s right ; I admit that I masturbate. I’m proud of it. I’m good at it.  I’m ambidextrous”, ll.12-15 p.35). Another thing why Junior is wierd sometimes is that he has some strange habits. When he was eight he slept in his closet and only stopped it because his sister said that this is way to get back in his mother’s womb (ll.10-13 p.36). Maybe because of this Junior thinks that his sister Mary is good at ruining things (“My sister is good at ruining things”, l.19 p.36). In relation to this you could think that Junior doesn’t like his sister very much but not at all. He thinks that she is a very strong, beatiful and funny person(l.22 p.36). Junior says that ” [He is] not like her at all”, l.2 p.38, because he is steady, he is excited about life and he is excited about school (ll. 2-3 p.38). Arnold/Junior is a excited and steady person but he isn’t very self confident person and he doesn’t really believe himself (“[…] the bigger and better kids will crush me”, l.9 p.38). So he thinks that the other kids are better than him and that they give him a crap for being excited but he doesn’t care about that at all so he does his own thing (“And I know that the other kids are going to give me a crap for being so excited about school. But I don’t care”, ll.20-21 p.38). So you can see that Junior is very brave and excited about life and everything but in another way a little bit wierd. Another argument to call him wierd is that he calls himself a “bookkisser” so he loves to kiss, grab and smell them something like a fetish (” I grabbed my book and opened it up. I wanted to smell it. Heck, I wanted to kiss it. Yes, kiss it. That’s right, I am a book kisser”, ll.4-8 p.41).

All in all it can be said that Junior is a very happy and excited teenager who wants to learn something about life but sometimes is very wierd and also different than other kids.

School report of Junior

Arnold aka Junior Spirit hasn’t a really easy and a really different schooltime. But he learned many things for life. He learned how to behave in many situations. Sometimes he was really angry and some kind of undisciplined but all in all he doesn’t wanted anything bad for anyone. But he didn’t everything right like he thrown a mathbook on his teachers head. He only did something like this because it wasn’t very easy for him in school and also frustrating sometimes to see that his parents worked with the same books . He did’t know how to handle this angry and frustrating feelings about the poorness so gave his teacher the fault. In general it can be said that he didn’t has a very easy school time this year but he learned really much about life.

Summary Chapter 4

The Book “The Absolutely true Diary of a part -time Indian,” written by Sherman Alexie and published 2007, deals with an disabled Indianboy named Arnold and his Problems with his poor family and his problems in school and with friends.

In this Chapter Junior is fourteen and it is his first day at Highschool. Also he tolds that he is very good at masturbating and loves it. Next he informs the reader that he slept in his closet beacause he felt like a womb but then he stopped because of his sister. Then he describes his sister and some characteristics of her. In the last part of the chapter he tells the reader about his wierd looking Teacher named Mr. P and a story that he throws a book at his teacher because he is angry about the poor situation in school and his life in general.

Analysis: Chapter 2

The chapter “Why Chicken Means So Much to Me” of the diary “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian”, which is written by Sherman Alexie was published in September 2007, deals with Arnold’s feelings about poorness and his family’s situation and also the feelings about his dog.

In the following im going to analyse Junior’s feelings and his language.

In the beginning of the chapter Junior tells the reader about his cartoonist career and about his cartoons in general. He says that “[his] cartoons will never take the place of food or money”, (ll.2-3 p.17) in his life. So he wants to tell the reader that in his opinion he’s not a very good cartoonist. He wishes that his cartoons could be real, so he draws something for example food and then he could eat it. But he knows that nobody can do something like that because it is megical. He describes this with a Alliteration (“But I can’t do that. Nobody can do that, not even the hungriest magician in the world”, ll.6-7 p.17). Also you can see that he’s not very self confident and also depressive because of his situation in the reservation and the poverty of his family (“[…] I am really just a poor-ass reservation kid living with his poor-ass family on the poor-ass Spokane Indian Reservation”, ll.8-10 p.17). He wishes that his situation would be better sometime and “[his] parents will come bursting trough the door with a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken”, ll.15-17 p.17. But Junior is not only depressive because of the poverty, also he is depressive because of his dog and bestfriend Oscar died. Junior thinks that he was the best and most dependaple living thing in the world (enumeration:”[…]but he was the only living thing that I could depend on. He was more dependable than my parents, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and big sister. He thaught me more than any teachers ever did”, ll.10-14 p.19). But in the end he knows that he could do nothing to heal Oscar because of the poorness (Alliteration:”There was nothing I could do to save Oscar.Nothing.Nothing.Nothing”, ll.14-17 p.20).

So all in all you can see that Junior is not very self confident and also depressive because of the problems with his family and his life in general but he has hope that it would be better one day.

I think Arnold´s Disabilities are no problem for him to get rich and famous. Many people who are rich and famous have disabilities for example Steven Hawking. But some people have preconception so they wouldn´t accept some rich and famous guy with disabilities.      Also he probably would get bullied in the public by haters who don´t grant him the glory and the achievments. So all in all I think he could get famous but with some restrictions. And I would definitely grant him his famous.
